Biography
Son of Conrad I and Clementia . In 1096 he inherited Luxembourg from his brother Heinrich . In 1122 he was embroiled in a conflict with the Archbishop of Trier, Bruno, for which he was excommunicated. Last mentioned on June 17, 1129 . His son Conrad II succeeded him until April 23, 1131 .
Marriage and Children
Around 1100 [2] married Lietgard [3] (approx. 1088/1090 - up to 1117), daughters Kuno von Northheim and Kunigunda von Orlamunde . Children:
- Conrad II (d. 1136), Count of Luxembourg
- Liutgard (d. Before 1170), heiress of Luxembourg, married to Henry II , Count Grainpre
It is possible that their son was:
- Wilhelm , Count of Gleiberg, mentioned in 1131 and 1158
The latter is listed in Europäische Stammtafeln , but as noted in the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy, he is only a relative of Clementia, mother of Wilhelm of Luxembourg, which does not necessarily mean that Wilhelm, the earl of Gleiberg, was a blood relative of the graphs of Luxembourg.
Notes
- ↑ Wilhelm is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1080, where Wilhelm and his brothers agree on the foundation of the Münster Abbey in Luxembourg .
- ↑ Ancient Russia in the light of foreign sources. - T. IV. - p. 234.
- ↑ The Saxon annalist , from whom we know about the marriages of the daughters of Kuno of Northheim, does not name the daughter who married William I, and sometimes instead of the name of Liutgard, indicate Matilda, the name of another daughter of Kuno. But the name of the wife of Wilhelm is known from the Chronicles of Alberic from Trois-Fontaine
