106th border detachment of the NKVD troops

Formed in June 1940 as part of the troops of the NKVD of the Byelorussian District.

On June 22, 1941, the detachment, numbering 2097 personnel, was on the defensive of the border in a 180-kilometer stretch to the south-south-east of the Taurage - Tilsit highway.

Departing from the border, the remnants of the detachment proceeded to the protection of the rear of the 8th Army . During July 1941, border guards defeated three sabotage groups totaling more than 200 people in forest areas near Lake Peipsi , eliminated the airborne troops thrown into the rear of the 8th army and had the task of cutting the Tallinn - Leningrad highway.
