Wing cap is a ceremonial headdress introduced in 1881 to all parts of the Russian imperial troops, except for regiments: cuirassier, ulan, hussar, life guards of the 4th infantry battalion, guard of the gendarme division, life guard of the Pavlovsky regiment and Cossack units.
The wing cap was assigned only to military ranks; the fur on the hats is black; white relied only on the ranks of the retinue of His Imperial Majesty; caps of cavalry, horse artillery and gendarme units differed in cuts from caps of other weapons; the gendarmes had a white sultan. In 1908, the winged hat was abolished for all units of the troops.
