Vladimir Ivanovich Smirnov (January 31, 1910 - June 16, 1988) - Soviet geologist, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1945), Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1962), Head of the Department of Geology and Geochemistry of Minerals of the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University (1952-1988). Deputy Minister of Geology of the USSR (1946-1951) ^[1] , Member of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry (1969-1975), Vice-President of the International Union of Geological Sciences (1968-1976).

Biography

Born January 18 ( 31 ) 1910 in the city of Moscow .

In 1926 he began working as a turner ^[2] .

In 1929 he entered the Moscow Mining Academy , from which in 1930 he was transferred to the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute , where he studied until 1934.

He began to work as a collector of field party.

He studied non-ferrous ores, conducted a metallogenic analysis for different regions of the earth's crust: the Far East , Transbaikalia , Western Siberia , Central Asia and the Caucasus .

He developed the theory of ore formation and methods for assessing the reserves of mineral raw materials.

Chief editor of the journal "Geology of ore deposits" (1968-1988).

Member of the editorial board of the journal “Problems of Soviet Geology” (1939–1942), collections “Geology of the USSR” (1954–1975), journals “Bulletin of the Moscow University. Geology Series (1959-1988), News of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Geology series "(1959-1964), Reports of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1970-1988).
