Biography
Philip Targett-Adams was born in London, England, in an ethnically mixed family (father - English, mother - Colombian ): and spent his childhood in different countries of Latin and Central America . He started playing electric guitar when he was in Venezuela at the age of eight. Rock and roll and Latin music influenced him equally [1] .
In 1966, as a student at the Dulwich College London School, Manzanera founded the band Pooh and the Ostrich Feather in 1966, performing psychedelic rock ; later, the composition took the name Quiet Sun and switched to music of a more avant-garde sound.
In 1972, after the collapse of the collective, Manzaner moved to Roxy Music, replacing David O'List here , just in time for the start of work on the debut album Roxy Music . Phil Manzanera took part in recording all the albums of the “classical” period of the group [2] .
After completing Country Life in 1974, Manzanera recorded his first solo, mostly instrumental album, Diamond Head . By this time, he took part in the solo records of his bandmates, Brian Ferry ( Another Time, Another Place ) and Brian Eno ( Here Come the Warm Jets , Taking Tiger Mountain [By Strategy] ), and also recorded an album with reunited Quiet Sun ( Mainstream album) [1] .
Since that time, Manzanera continued to combine work in the group with solo and side projects. In 1977, he formed the group 801, then conducted a tour with Ferry, after the breakup of Roxy Music he created the duet The Explorers with saxophonist Andy Mackay [1] . As a music producer during these years, Manzanera collaborated with many musicians; in 1975, he produced the album of the then little-known Split Enz ; 1993 - Nina Hagen's Revolution Ballroom album.
