Nuno Gonçalves ( port. Nuno Gonçalves ) - Portuguese artist of the XV century, one of the first Portuguese artists. His main and only, with a high probability, work belonging to him is the St. Vincent's Polyptych . The polyptych was found in the monastery of San Vicente le Faure in the 1880s and depicts people (nobles, including the well-known contemporaries of Gonçalves, clergy and ordinary people) of Portugal in the 15th century.

Neither the date of birth nor the date of death of Gonçalves are precisely unknown. He worked between the years 1450 and 1490. The only source linking it with the polyptych of St. Vincent is the work of Francisco de Olandy , written in the 16th century and attributing to him a great work of art, identified with the polyptych. It is alleged, moreover, that Father Hugo van der Goes worked on one of the valves together with Gonçalves, but there is no evidence of this.
Since the discovery of a polyptych in the 19th century, disputes about the author’s identity and the people depicted in it have not stopped. It is often believed that Prince Henry the Navigator is depicted on the third casement, but even this fact does not have documentary evidence and is sometimes questioned.
The regional museum of Aveiro preserved a portrait of Princess Juana , who is also attributed to Gonçalves.
Nuno Gonçalves is depicted, along with other historical figures, at the Monument to the Discoveries in Belem (Bethlehem) near Lisbon .
