The natural range of the species covers South America - Argentina and Chile , from the Strait of Magellan to Valdivia .
Often found in culture. The Nikitsky Botanical Garden was introduced in the middle of the XIX century .

Botanical Description
Compact evergreen shrub up to 3 m high, with brown, pubescent shoots .
Leaves are elliptical, wedge-shaped to the base, with a tip at the apex, whole-edge, up to 5 cm long. Three-prickly spines, up to 1.5 cm long.
Yellow-orange flowers , collected in 1-2, on thin pedicels up to 2.5 cm long.
Fruits are almost spherical, red
