Martin, Steffi

Steffi Walter-Martin ( German: Steffi Martin ; September 17, 1962 , Bad Schlema , Karl-Marx-Stadt - June 21, 2017 , Germany ) is a German sled who played for the German Democratic Republic in the 1980s. She took part in two Olympic Winter Games and won two gold medals at them, one at the 1984 games in Sarajevo , the second at the 1988 games in Calgary - both in the women's singles program.

Career

Steffi Martin is the owner of two gold medals at the World Championships, one of which she won in 1983 in Lake Placid , while the other she received for the 1985 competition in Oberhof . The athlete twice became the winner of the European Championships, Winterberg silver (1982) and Hammarstrand silver (1986) on her track record. At the World Cup, the best result was shown in the 1983-1984 season, when she shared the first place in the overall standings of the women's single program with compatriot Bettina Schmidt .
