History

The group was formed by Don Henley and Glenn Fry in Los Angeles in 1971 . The origins of the team were producer Linda Ronstadt , and the participants were recruited from rock bands of various musical orientations. For this reason, they organically absorbed and reworked many musical influences, among which Bob Dylan and Neil Young took not the last place. In the first major hit of the “eagles” - “Witchy Woman” (1972) - blues motifs prevailed; the second album Desperado (1973) paid tribute to cowboy themes, and only with the third disc On the Border (1974) they were able to enter the struggle for the top lines of the sales charts.

Classical rock with a touch of country and folk music continued to remain at the heart of the signature sound of Eagles and when recording their fourth album, One of These Nights (1975). During this period, they began to play more energetic, “muscular” rock, significantly expanding their audience. Especially admired by the fans are the thoughtful texts of key compositions, not alien to symbolism. In 1976, one of the most commercially successful albums in the history of rock music was released - Hotel California with the hit of the same name, which became the hallmark of "the most American of rock bands" outside the United States.

In the late 1970s, Eagles toured a lot. At the time of the release of their long-awaited sixth album (1979), considerable disagreement had accumulated between the participants. Since 1980, they stop recording together, and in 1982, Don Henley officially announces the collapse of the legendary team. He answered briefly to questions about the possibility of reuniting participants: "only when the underworld freezes." However, in 1994, to the delight of fans, “Eagles” temporarily reunited to tour the United States and record a new album, Hell Freezes Over (literally, “the underworld freezes”), which became one of the best-selling CDs of the year and confirmed that the group is located in brilliant creative form. In 2003, rock veterans released the single “Hole in the World,” dedicated to the memory of the victims of the September 11 attacks .

The first Eagles studio album in 28 years, The Long Road Out of Eden , hit the shelves of music stores in November 2007. Despite the fact that the album consists of two discs and is far from modern musical trends, it debuted in the Billboard Top 200 in first place. The closest pursuer - the first disc in five years, Britney Spears - was sold in circulation, more than two times smaller. [5]

The founder of the group, Glenn Fry, died on January 18, 2016. The cause of death was complications due to pneumonia, acute ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis. On March 13 of the same year, the group announced the breakup [6] .

In July 2017, the Eagles resumed their activities at the Classic West and Classic East Festival and also conducted an An Evening With Eagles USA tour. In addition to the permanent members (Henley, Walsh and Schmitt), Vins Gill and Deacon Fry (son of Glenn Fry) played on a sessional basis [7] [8] . In October 2017, during a special event of the Sirius XM radio station, the team for the first time in their history performed on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry House concert hall, from where the cult country program Grand Ole Opry is usually broadcast [9] . In 2018, the band continued to tour as part of their North American tour [10] . In addition to Gill and Fry, she was joined by Will Henley (son of Don Henley), who will perform with Eagles until entering college in the fall of 2018 [11] .

In 2019, the group announced that it would first release their full 1976 album, Hotel California , on September 27 and 28, 2019 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, along with another set list featuring the band’s best hits [12] .

On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine named Eagles among hundreds of artists whose master tapes were reportedly destroyed during a fire at Universal Studios Hollywood 2008 [13] .
