Biography

Ivan Efimovich Baranov was born on January 16, 1922 in a peasant family. He graduated from Uglovskaya high school. He studied at the Borovichi flying club. He worked at the Uglovskiy lime plant as a normalizer.

In 1941, drafted into the Red Army . Sent to the Engels Military Aviation Pilot School. After its completion in September 1942 - at the front. Squadron commander of the 807th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 206th Assault Aviation Division of the 7th Assault Aviation Corps of the 14th Air Army 3rd Baltic Front .

By September 1944 had completed 107 successful sorties. Including: on March 19, 1944, in the area of ​​the city of Nikolaev, Baranov, together with the pilot Lyakhovsky, carried out reconnaissance of enemy forces. At the railway station, Trichaty destroyed a military train with ammunition. On April 8, I. Baranov drove six IL-2 twice to destroy enemy tanks, firing points and manpower, contributing to the breakthrough of the German fortified defense in the area of Sivash lakes . On April 22, the Baranov assault group attacked and sunk a sea caravan from a seven-thousand-ton-ton transport vehicle, a minesweeper and two boats, which moved to Severnaya Bay. The very next day, the pilot sank an enemy barge near Cape Chersonese. On May 6, I. Ye. Baranov, who was the leader of the IL-2 six, fired at artillery positions and manpower in the region of the Mekenziev Mountains . For the successful conduct of this operation, the pilots of the squadron and its commander received thanks from Marshal of the Soviet Union A.M. Vasilievsky .

February 23, 1945 I. E. Baranov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union . In the view it was written:

After the war he continued his service in the Air Force . In 1953 he graduated from the Higher Officer Courses. By 1963, he held the position of deputy unit commander, flew in high-speed fighters. Since 1972 - in stock. He lived in the city of Serpukhov , where he worked at the Metallist plant.

Ivan Efimovich Baranov died on February 12, 1994 . He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Leonikh Shchelkovsky district of the Moscow region .
