He supervised the compilation and publication of a short Russian-Dagestan dictionary of six Dagestan literary languages. His compiled Russian-Lac Dictionary (1987), revised and revised, was reprinted in 1994.

In 1989, N. S. Dzhidalaev published the monograph “ Far-Close ”, dedicated to the linguistic, historical, and folklore ties of the peoples of Dagestan with the ancient Bulgars . The monograph “Turkisms in the Dagestan languages: Experience of historical and etymological analysis”, published in 1990, explores the Turkic (Bulgarian, Azerbaijani, Kumyk) lexical contribution to the Dagestan languages. The monograph Poetics of Lak Epic Songs analyzes in detail the vocabulary of Lak songs as an aesthetic system.

In 2004, N. S. Dzhidalaev published a monograph "Trends in the functional development of languages ​​in pre-revolutionary Dagestan." It gives an objective sociolinguistic picture of the linguistic situation in pre-Soviet Dagestan in its main and relevant aspects, in particular, it considers: bilingualism and its types; regional languages ​​of interethnic communication; Arabic language and Arabic script; occurrence of writing in local languages; the formation and development of literary languages ​​in the oral and written varieties and the features of their functioning in various fields.

Dzhidalaev N. S. is the compiler and the editor-in-chief of the thematic collections published by the linguists of the institute: “Turkic-Dagestan language contacts”, “Turkic-Dagestan language relations”, “Social terminology in the languages ​​of Dagestan”, “Pronoun in the languages ​​of Dagestan”. Under his leadership, work was completed on the preparation and preparation for the publication of fundamental collective work - a reference book “Languages ​​of Dagestan” (2000).

A number of articles by N. S. Dzhidalaev have been published abroad, in the IKY Yearbook , in the journal “ Soviet Turkology ” and in other publications.

Dzhidalaev N. S. teaches at the Dagestan State University and the Dagestan Pedagogical State University . He prepared (co-authored) textbooks and teaching aids for grades 4–5 of Lak schools. He is the head of the Scientific Council under the Presidium of the DSC RAS ​​"Language Life of Dagestan."

Under the scientific supervision of N. S. Dzhidalaev, 13 candidate dissertations were defended.

Dzhidalaev N. S. takes an active part in the creation of the law "On the languages ​​of Dagestan."

Dzhidalaev N.S. often speaks in periodicals with problematic articles about the language life of Dagestan.
