Game plot
The plot of the game revolves around the protagonist William "Bill" Sherman. Bill - an elite hired killer, dies from the explosion of C4 explosives, which he himself laid down to eliminate a group of bandits. Also, a bus full of innocent civilians is accidentally destroyed by an explosion. Bill ends up in Purgatory, where Elohim , a female angel, pays attention to him. Guided by the voice of Elohim, he paves his way to salvation, destroying crowds of demons along the way. On his way, he meets Astaroth, who invites Bill to join his army, which he refuses. A little later, Ramiel stands on his way - an angel who introduced himself as the owner of Purgatory, who offers Bill a deal according to which he will get a chance to return to the world of the living. Elohim reveals the truth to Bill: Ramiel is actually a traitor, expelled from Paradise and wants to enslave Purgatory for a couple with Astaroth. In the final battle, the protagonist encounters both of them and defeats them. Ramiel begs to save his life and offers in return to return Bill to earth. From this point on, the game has three different finals.
Bad ending: Ramiel brings Bill back to life a few seconds before the explosion. Bill again tries to save the bus with people, but does not have time and again dies ... this time he goes to Hell forever.
Good ending: Ramiel brings Bill back to life the night before the explosion. Bill manages to remove the C4 explosive from the car and throws it into the sea. He decides to change his life for the better. William is happy to have an understanding of the meaning of life.
Alternative ending: At the moment Ramiel offers a deal to Bill, Elohim appears and explains that one cannot believe the treacherous speeches of the fallen angel. She holds out the sacred sword to Bill and he, having finished the defeated enemy, becomes the new lord of Purgatory.
Gameplay
Basically, the gameplay of the game is the same as in other games in the series. The player fights with numerous enemies and defeats them, moving from one place to another. All weapons have an alternative fire mode. Most of the enemies and all types of weapons remained the same.
Weapons
One new weapon appeared in the game. The main attack is an improved shotgun (the stakes fly in a straight path), the alternative attack is the ejection of a burning balloon, it causes very large damage in a very large radius during an explosion.
Levels
The game has 6 levels, there is also a hidden 7th level.
- Cathedral (The Cathedral)
- The Forbidden Valley
- Gloomy Mountains
- The Haunted City
- Hangar
- Open Sea (High Seas)
- Angel Dust
Of these, 4-5 levels have an open world, which makes passing the game tedious and boring, and each level takes 2-3 minutes to load.
Criticism
The game received mostly negative reviews from critics.
