Biography

Matilda was the daughter of Ida of Boulogne and Renault de Dammarten . Her father was captured at the Battle of Buvin , and her mother died shortly afterwards.

In 1218, the King of France, Philippe Augustus, married Matilda his youngest son, Philippe Yurpel , Count of Clermont-en-Bovezi , to control her possessions. After the death of the king, Philip and Matilda began to rule more independently, developing the economy of their lands and building fortifications, and under the Castile Blanca they completely went over to the opposition.

In 1234 or 1235, Philip died, and Matilda ruled for three years on her own, although she had to cede Omal to her uncle . In 1237, she took a vassal oath to Robert , Count of Artois.

In 1238, Matilda married the Portuguese Infanta Afonso , who ascended the throne in 1248. Afonso was younger than his wife, and they had no surviving children. In 1253, the king divorced his wife who had lost the ability to bear children.

In 1259 or 1260, the countess died, although subjects for a long time mentioned in the documents the peaceful "Countess Maho times." The only son who survived her by that time refused all titles, and the inheritance of Matilda became a subject of controversy. As a result, Boulogne went to her cousin Adelaide , Countess of Auvergne. County Dammarten inherited Mathieu de Three - her cousin.
