Animax ( Japanese ア ニ マ ッ ク ス Animakkusu ) is a Japanese satellite television network focused on showing anime . [2] Sony conglomerate media division. Broadcasting covers Japan, Taiwan , Hong Kong , South Korea , Southeast and South Asia , Latin America and, in recent years, Europe ( Germany , Romania , Hungary , the Czech Republic since 2007, Slovakia , Spain and Portugal since 2008) [8] [ 9] , Africa and Australia . Thanks to this, Animax is the first and largest in the world round-the-clock television network focused on showing anime [7] [10] with more than 89 million viewers, broadcasting in 62 countries and in more than 17 languages. The name of the company is a wallet word from anime ( ア ニ メ anime ) and max ( マ ッ ク ス makkusu ) . [12]

History

Japan

The company was established by Sony on May 29, 1998 as Animax Broadcast Japan Inc. ( Japanese. 株式会社 ア ニ マ ッ ク ス ブ ロ ー ド キ ャ ス ト ・ ジ ャ パ ン Kubusiki-gaisha Animakkusu Buro: Dokyasuto Japan ) . The first broadcast took place on June 1 of the same year on the basis of the SKY PerfecTV satellite television platform ! . [1] The network began broadcasting with high definition (HDTV) in October 2009.
