The 1st BAFTA Cinema Award Ceremony in 1947 took place in 1948 .
The awards were presented in two categories: “Best Film” and “Best British Film”. Until 1980, film directors received awards in these categories. The Special Award , which lasted from 1948 to 1959, was awarded to Paul Rota's documentary directed by The World Is Rich [1] .
