Writing and Creating

Pink said the album is the most vulnerable to date. [6] Most of the themes on the album allude to the fact that Pink recently broke up with her husband Carey Hart (although there was no official divorce, the divorce was canceled due to the fact that Pink and Hart reconciled). [7] The first single “So What” begins with the words: “I think I just lost my husband, / I don’t know where he went.” [8] “Please Don't Leave Me” also speaks of a break. The artist summarizes this topic as follows: "Well, I'm fucking, but still love me." [6] In “Mean” she sings: “In the beginning, everything was fine, / but why did we become so pathetic?” [6]

The song Pink is most proud of is Crystal Ball. She explained the track like this: “I recorded it the first time, we didn’t even mix it. She went straight to mastering. It is symbolic, and not about perfection or gloss at all. I just love this song and I liked recording it. ” [6] She wrote the song with her friend Billy Mann , who also helped her with the songs “ Stupid Girls ”, “ Dear Mr. President ”and“ I'm Not Dead ”among others.

In “It's All Your Fault,” Pink accuses her lover of giving hope for a love relationship, and then just quitting. She proclaims in verse: "I conjure up the thought of leaving, but probably even do it wrong." In “Glitter in the Air,” Pink asks a lot of questions, for example: “Have you ever looked fear in the eyes and said that you just don't give a damn?” And “Have you ever hated yourself for looking stupidly at the phone?” ". Pink admits: “I still have no answers to some of the questions that I put in the notes. I’m still trying to figure them out. ” [6]

The second single from the album is Sober . Pink wrote this song at a party at her house, where everyone was drunk, except for her, and she wanted everyone to leave. She went to the beach, and a line came to her head: “But will it also be good for me to be sober?” Ultimately, this has nothing to do with alcohol , but refers specifically to individuals. “Will I feel good next to myself without being dependent on anyone?” Pink says in an interview. [9]

Ave Mary A about problems and their outcome. “One Foot Wrong” talks about hallucinations from LSD that go sideways, based on another theme: “This is a song about losing control, and how easy it is to lose the meaning of life and be on the edge.” [6]

Initially, Pink wanted to name the album Heartbreak Is a Motherfucker ( Rus. Parting is crap ), but the record label rejected it because of fear that an aggressive language could affect sales. She also said that she didn’t want the album to look like a breakup album: “It has a lot about [breakup], but it’s also fun, which is why I called it Funhouse in the end.” Pink also stated that she sees life as a carnival : “ Clowns should cause happiness, but they are really scary. Carnivals should be fun, but in fact it shivers from them ... and this is like life for me and love. Love should be fun, but sometimes it is just awful. And in the mirrors of the house of fun that distort your image, you don’t recognize yourself, and ask yourself: “How did I get here?” How to get out of here? ". But you think you want to repeat it. In life and love the same way. This is a metaphor for the state of love and life. " [6] This is also reflected in the track "Funhouse", where she says she used to have fun. "It's about when you are in a place that no longer suits you, you burn this nest of debauchery, and start all over again." [6]

Record Information

Pink composed and recorded approximately 30 to 35 songs for the new album. “It's like getting rid of your own children:“ I love this too, but I will let him die, ”she says about choosing tracks for the album. “Now it’s good that different countries want additional songs and parties B, so there’s always a house for other children.” [10] Pink traveled the world to write and record an album with Aig White in London and with Max Martin in Stockholm . “It was really cool to leave home and get out of my own life. No chaos. No phones, ”Pink explains of her overseas sessions. [6]

Album reviewers were mostly positive. [23] Sydney's The Daily Telegraph gave him 4.5 stars, saying: "The record is a harmonious mix of pop-jeweled pop jewels and medium-rhythmic ballads." And he added: "The power of the Pink pop music lies in a clever juxtaposition of sincere honesty about her life and hymn refrains and irresistible melodies designed for the cries of her fans. [24]

Other positive reviews were from US Magazine , which gave the album four stars, saying: “Rebel winner Grammy again combines unbridled verses with perfect pop rock hooks on her electrified fifth CD. With her aggressive hit No. 1 “So What” to the vulnerable “Please Don't Leave Me” and the frank ballad “I Don't Believe You”, along with the malicious “It's All Your Fault”, Pink confirms that she is still in good shape. in combat form. " [25]

Mixed reviews came, for example, from Rolling Stone and Blender , [26] , each of which gave the album 3 stars. Rolling Stone said: “Pink used to show more personality, and some recordings, including the smug ballad“ I Don't Believe You, ”make it sound like another hit with a big voice. Funhouse could have been more fun if Pink had been easier in unhappy love songs. ” [27]

Funhouse debuted at # 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart on November 18, 2008, with sales of 180,000 after Wal-Mart's exclusive AC / DC album, Black Ice , which was spotlighted in first place with sales of 271,000.
