Canadian Record Companies Association

The Canadian Sound Recording Association ( English Canadian Recording Industry Association , CRIA ; renamed Music Canada in 2011) is a non - profit association founded in April 9, 1963 in the city of Toronto , and represents the interests of record companies in Canada . [1] Originally formed from 10 members of the Association of Canadian Recording Producers , and in 1972 changed its name and opened membership to other companies in the recording industry. [2]

CRIA is governed by a board of directors who are elected annually by members of CRIA. To be eligible to be elected, the candidate must be one of the executive directors of the participating companies. Graham Henderson (Graham Henderson) of the company Universal Music Group has served as president of CRIA since November 15, 2004 ; Brian Robertson has held this position since 1974 . [3]

Certification

Certification criteria for albums released after May 1, 2008 :

  • Gold: 40,000 sales (previously 50,000)
  • Platinum: 80,000 sales (previously 100,000)
  • Diamond: 800,000 sales (previously 1.000.000) [4]

Note: A multi-platinum disk gives 160,000 units or more after the sale (that is, 160,000, which is twice the size of Platinum), but when 800,000 units (Diamond certification) have not yet been sold.

Other Services

CRIA is responsible for distributing the ISRC 's International Standard Audio / Video Records in Canada, as well as working with IFPI and RIAA to prevent musician copyright infringement.
