Build

Built at the royal shipyard in Woolwich , launched in July 1701 . [1] Some of the timber saved during the dismantling of the previous Royal Sovereign , destroyed by fire in 1697, was used during the construction. [4]

The dimensions of the Royal Sovereign , generally well-established, [5] formed the basis of the 100-gun ships of the Code of Law of 1719. In practice, only Royal Sovereign himself followed them, being the only ship of the 1st rank reconstructed, or rebuilt according to the laying in its original form.

Service

He was the flagship of Admiral George Hand in the War of the Spanish Succession .

Passed perestroika in Chatham , again according to the code of 1719; the order was issued on February 18, 1724 . Re-launched September 28, 1728 . [6]

The rebuilt Royal Sovereign served until 1768 , after which it was scrapped. [6]

Commanders

  • 1745-1746 - Thomas Smith .
