Etymology of the Latin nameAegeus ( Greek mythology ) - the Athenian king, the son of Pandion, the father of Theseus , as a result of a tragic mistake which threw himself into the sea, later named after him [2] .
DescriptionThe length of the front wing of the imago is 22–27 mm [2] . Wingspan from 45 to 52 mm. Females are often somewhat larger than the male. A distinctive feature is the presence of a white spot on the underside of the hind wing in the form of the Latin letter “v” or “y” [3] .
DistributionMediterranean coast, Southern France , Italy , Balkan Peninsula , Greece , Turkey , Caucasus , Crimea , Middle East , North India . Refers to species that sometimes fly north. Depending on weather conditions, the duration of migration flights may vary. In favorable years, fly from the Carpathians .
In France, a very rare species. In the Czech Republic (the northern border of the migratory range) was recorded once in 1965 in Central Moravia [4] . Bulgaria is very local and rare, known from the warm river valleys in the Rhodope and Rila mountains, the foothills of Belasitsi (near the town of Petrich ), the Struma valley (Kresna gorge) and the Stara planina mountains ( Sliven , Kalofersky manastir, Iskar gorge) [5] .
BiologyIt develops in two or three generations. The flight of adults occurs in May – June, then in July – October, and after the wintering of adults, in March – April (in the Eastern Caucasus ). Flight in the Central Caucasus and Ciscaucasia was observed only in June – July. It inhabits dry rocky mountain slopes, covered with fodder plants, up to an altitude of 2500 m above sea level. m. More common at altitudes below 1500 m above sea level. m. Often observed in anthropogenic stations . Solitary appearance and active migrant. Butterflies like to sit on open rocky areas, sandy and rocky roads, walls of buildings near settlements. The imago eats on the flowers of centranthus red - lat. Centranthus ruber ( L. ), thistles - lat. Carduus ( L. ), Budyakov , etc.
Pupa hanging on the leaves and stems of a fodder plant. Caterpillars develop around 10-14 days.
Feed plants of caterpillars: nettle - lat. Urticaceae ( Juss. ), In particular the medicinal peritoneum - lat. Parietaria officinalis ( L. ).
