Long- distance bus (intercity bus) (abbr: ADS) - a bus designed for long distance transport.
Technical Features
It is distinguished from the city and suburban buses:
- Great travel time: from several hours to several days.
- Rare stops: the bus can move without stopping for several hours.
- Boarding and disembarking of passengers mainly at terminal stations. It is possible to stop at intermediate stations, but for quite a long time (20 - 30 minutes), compared to city and suburban buses.
- Large amount of baggage carried by passengers.
All this together dictates the following design features:
- Lack of standing places.
- The presence of only one or two doors, much narrower than in the city bus: embarking and disembarking passengers takes a few minutes and there is no need for their large capacity.
- Large trunk, located under the floor of the cabin. Shelves for hand luggage are also available.
- Seats, with armrests and the ability to take a reclining position. Also in the back of the seat is often located a small table and cup holders.
- Existence of individual lamps of lighting, and also curtains of ventilation for each place.
- Also a chemical toilet , a water dispenser , a refrigerator , a microwave , a mini-bar , a wardrobe , a TV , an air conditioner , and sometimes even a shower and a telephone can be included in the package.
Application
These buses are used to carry tourists, but also as public transport over long distances. In Europe, where high-speed railways are well developed, long-distance buses occupy the niche of the slowest, but also the cheapest transport for long-distance travel. In countries where railways are less developed, such buses may be the most preferred type of long-distance transport, both in price and comfort. In Russia and the CIS countries , in the last few years long-distance minibuses have been actively developed. The comfort of long-distance buses is estimated by the star system, similarly to hotels and restaurants .
