Novosilsky County

Novosilsky Uyezd is an administrative-territorial unit of the Belgorod , Tula and Oryol provinces of the Russian Empire and the RSFSR , which existed in 1727-1928 . The county town is Novosil .

Geography

The county was located in the south-west of the Tula province , bordering the Oryol province . The area of ​​the county in 1897 was 2,889.8 [1] verstsΒ² (3,289 kmΒ²), in 1926 - 3,535 [2] kmΒ².

History

Novosilsky Uyezd has been known since pre-Petrine times. In 1708, the county was abolished, and the city of Novosil was assigned to the Kiev province (in 1719, when the provinces were divided into provinces, it was assigned to the Oryol province ). In 1727, the county as part of the Oryol province was restored, and the province itself was transferred to the Belgorod province .

In 1777, the county was assigned to the Tula governorship , which in 1796 was transformed into the Tula province .

In August 1924, the county was divided into 6 districts [3] : the Blagodatno-Zalegoshchinsky district (center of the village of Zalegoshch ), Verkhovsky , Korsakovsky , Mtsensky (center of the village of Cheremoshnya), Novosilsky , Sudbishchensky (center of the station of Khomutovo ).

On July 6, 1925, the county, together with the districts, was transferred to the Oryol province [4] .

In 1928, the Novosilsky Uyezd was abolished, its territory became part of the Oryol District of the Central Black Earth Region .

Population

According to the 1897 census, 143,292 [1] people lived in the county. Including Russians - 99.9%. 2 912 people lived in the county town of Novosil .

According to the results of the 1926 All-Union population census, the county population was 184,996 people [2] , of which the urban population (the city of Novosil ) was 2,733 people.
