Biography and career
Karl Maka grew up in Guangdong and moved to Hong Kong in 1958. He studied electrical engineering in the United States and worked for the New York Telephone Company in 1969. After completing film courses at New York University in 1971-1973, he returned to Hong Kong, where he created the film companies Pioneer Film Company (Xianfeng) in 1975 and Garbo Films (Jiabao ) in 1978. He laid the foundation for the popular mixed genre of comedy kung fu, and also wrote the script, directed and played a role in the movie Tiger and the Frog (1978).
