History
In feudal times, the richest merchants and officials lived here. During the time of the Qing Empire , this territory was subordinated to Daxing County, and inside the Manchurian city there were representatives of four “ flags ”: yellow with a border, pure white, white with a border and pure blue (each of the “banners” was responsible for the defense of the city gates assigned to it) .
After the Xinhai Revolution and the formation of the Chinese Republic, this territory was subordinated to the First and Third Inner Areas.
After the formation of the People's Republic of China, in 1952, the regions of Dundan (东 单 区) and Duns (东 四 区) were created here. In 1958, they were merged into a new district, called “Dongcheng” (since the empire of Ming and Qing had the eastern half of the city here). In 2010, the Chongwen district was annexed to the Dongcheng district.
