Biography
Born May 29 ( June 11 ) 1917 in the city of Bryansk in a family of teachers. After graduating from a secondary school in the city of Orel in 1935, he entered the Military Medical Academy named after S. M. Kirov in the city of Leningrad on a Komsomol call.
In the Red Army since 1935 . During his studies at the Military Medical Academy as a regimental doctor, he took part in providing first aid to the wounded during the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. For courage and heroism he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, which was awarded to him in the Moscow Kremlin by the "All-Union Warden" M. I. Kalinin . Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1939 .
After graduating with honors from the Military Medical Academy in 1940 , N. N. Alexandrov was left at the academy as an adjunct in the department of faculty surgery, headed by Professor V. N. Shamov.
During the Great Patriotic War, Nikolai Alexandrov was in the army, in the troops of the Leningrad and 1st Ukrainian fronts, having passed the path from the surgeon and commander of the 107th medical battalion, division doctor of the 56th infantry division, senior specialist of the surgical reinforcement group ORMU 55th Army, senior surgeon and head of the surgical field mobile hospital, to the head of the Garrison Hospital in Austria (city of Vienna).
For his dedicated work that saved the lives of many fighters and commanders of the Red Army, N. N. Alexandrov was awarded the second order of the Red Banner, orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star.
In 1946 he returned to the Department of Faculty Surgery of the Military Medical Academy, graduating from the adjunct department in the same year, and then worked as a senior researcher and lecturer in the department of faculty surgery of the Military Medical Academy.
In 1951, N.N. Aleksandrov led the neurosurgeons for six months under the conditions of military operations in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ( DPRK ), actively introducing into practice the method he developed using antibiotics for brain injuries in order to prevent and treat complications. The study of this method was successfully completed in the conditions of faculty surgery at the VMA named after S. M. Kirov, and the results are summarized in a doctoral dissertation ( 1954 ) and in the monograph “Penicillin epilepsy and the choice of the method of using antibiotics for open skull injuries” ( 1966 ) . During this period, N. N. Alexandrov was awarded the third Order of the Red Banner, the second Order of the Red Star and the Order of Freedom and Independence of the DPRK .
In 1956, N. N. Alexandrov was awarded the fourth Order of the Red Banner. Under his leadership, in 1955-1960, seven candidate dissertations on the treatment of gunshot wounds in those affected by ionizing radiation were completed and defended.
Since 1960, N. N. Alexandrov, who had served in the army for 25 years, after being transferred to the reserve for health reasons, was sent by the USSR Ministry of Health to the capital of Belarus, Minsk , where he headed the newly created Research Institute of Oncology and Medical Radiology of the Ministry of Health of the Byelorussian SSR , at the same time he was elected head of the Department of Oncology and Medical Radiology of the Belarusian Institute for Advanced Medical Studies. Under the leadership of N. N. Alexandrov, a scientific campus of the Institute of Oncology was built near Minsk.
Being the main oncologist of the Ministry of Health of the BSSR, N. N. Alexandrov did a great job to strengthen and improve the organization of the oncological service in the republic. In 1962, he was awarded the title of professor. In 1974, he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.
Nikolai Nikolaevich shared his experience in organizing cancer care in Belarus at various republican medical forums and at meetings held with the participation of socialist countries during business trips to the USA, East Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Since 1974, he has been a WHO expert on international cooperation on cancer research. This work experience was reflected in the 1980 monograph “Anticancer struggle in the CMEA member countries”, in the writing of which Nikolai Nikolaevich took part.
An outstanding scientist lived in the hero city of Minsk . He died on October 7, 1981 . He was buried in Minsk at the Eastern cemetery (plot number 26).
Rewards
- By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 2, 1977, for outstanding achievements and a great contribution to the development of medical science, Nikolai Nikolayevich was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Hammer and Sickle Medal.
- Order of Lenin ( 1977 ), four orders of the Red Banner, two orders of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Order of the October Revolution ( 1971 ).
- Awarded many medals.
- He was awarded letters of honor of the Supreme Council of the Belarusian SSR ( 1967 , 1972 ).
Memory
Nikolai Nikolaevich Alexandrov published over 240 scientific papers, including 7 monographs.
In 1984, a memorial plaque was inaugurated on the facade of the main administrative building of the institute, which N. N. Alexandrov headed for more than twenty years, and in 1997, the Scientific Research Institute of Oncology and Medical Radiology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus (now the State Institution “Republican Scientific and practical center of oncology and medical radiology ”) was named after its founder and first director Hero of Socialist Labor N. N. Alexandrov.
In 2008, the name of N. N. Alexandrov was named the street of the district "Green Forest" in the village. Lesnoy (Borovljansky village council of the Minsk region, Belarus), where the RSPC of Oncology and Medical Radiology, headed by Aleksandrov, is located.
