Biography
Hereditary military, landowner of Karsun district . Born in the family of Lieutenant General Baron Alexander Alexandrovich Fredericks (1798-1859) and his wife Daria Alekseevna (1817-1911), daughter of Lieutenant General A. I. Bartolomey .
Together with his brother Alexander, he graduated from the Page Corps . June 26, 1856 entered the service of the ensign in the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment . According to the memoirs of a contemporary [1] :
| The 17-year-old Baron Fredericks, just made from pages to officers, was small in stature, blond, handsome, with an open, noble face and graceful manners, this, I will not say young man, but just a cute child, seemed, by appearance, too young for officer epaulettes, as a result, on the streets, people, taking him not for a simple officer, took off their hats in front of him. |
In 1861 he graduated from the 1st category of the Imperial Nikolaev Military Academy of the General Staff . Member of the Polish campaign of 1863 .
From 13.05 . 1865 to 12.10 . 1876 adjutant of the Minister of War . From 12.10 . 1876 to 29.7 . 1899 military agent in Paris. During the war with the Turks, he criticized the frankness of Russian officers in front of correspondents of foreign newspapers [2] . In 1877 he took part in the founding of the Society for Mutual Assistance and Charity of Russian Artists in Paris [3] .
Since July 29, 1899, the honorary guardian of the St. Petersburg presence of the Board of Trustees of the institutions of the Empress Maria . Died 23.9 . 1914 . It is excluded from the lists of the dead on December 18 . 1914 .
Leo Fredericks was married to Varvara Andreevna Arapova (1843-1903), sister of I.A. and N.A. Arapovs , had a son, Alexander (1863) and daughter Elizabeth (1869 — after 1916), since 1898 the maid of honor of the court. The portrait of the Arapov sisters by I.K. Makarov is kept in the Penza Regional Art Gallery .
