Cheek piercing - a type of facial piercing at which a puncture is made in the cheek. The most popular option is piercing the cheeks, when through the tissues of the face a puncture through the mouth is made. The location of the two jewels is distributed, symmetrically on both cheeks, so that the piercing creates or simulates dimples on the cheeks [1] . This type of piercing can cause slight damage to the nerve endings of the wearer, with the result that artificially created dimples will appear on the face. Another option is to install microdermals with a location where you need to create a dimple effect. This method is considered to be preferable, as in case of penetrating punctures, complications often arise with leakage or discharge of lymph, a fluid that is similar in texture to saliva and has a specific odor. When installing microdermals, the probability of leaving scars is slightly higher than during piercing, however, the scars from micro-implantation heal quickly and leave a barely noticeable mark (1 mm).
Of the celebrity piercing cheeks is the Rammstein singer Till Lindeman .
Jewelery
As a rule, for the piercing of the cheeks, labrets with a diameter of 1.6 mm with one flat side and a ball are used. Thanks to the flat side, such labrets feel most comfortable in the mouth and carry the least risk of damage to the teeth and gums.
Initially, a longer decoration is inserted into the puncture on the basis of swelling of the tissues during the healing period. At the end of the healing process, the decoration is replaced with a smaller, more suitable in size, which reduces the chance of damage to the teeth.
History
Cheek piercing with constant wear began to be practiced only in the modern world.
Ritual piercing of the cheeks was common both in primitive cultures and in developed countries. The most famous of these rituals can be called the festival of vegetarians in Phuket , Thailand, where “mediums” (parishioners and monks) pierce their cheeks with a large number of objects of different sizes, being in a state of trance [2] .
