Semdor, Semen Zinovievich

Semyon (Shimen) Zinovievich Semdor , also Semyon Doroshenko (real surname Goldstein ; 1888 , Smila , Cherkassy County , Kiev Province , Russian Empire - August 12, 1938 , Simferopol ) - Ukrainian, Russian and Soviet actor and director of Jewish and Ukrainian theater . One of the founders of the National Theater of Ukraine.

Biography

Born in Smela, in the family of a shoemaker. As a child, he ran with the actors of a traveling theater. From 1910 he played with Chibisov in the town of Alexandria in the Kherson province.

Since 1913, in the theater of the partnership "Russian Conversation" in Lemberg .

In 1915-1917 worked in the Ukrainian theater in Yekaterinoslav.

After the October Revolution, in Ukraine, together with Les Kurbas and other prominent figures, he created the first state-owned Young Ukrainian Theater [1] .

In 1919, together with Dovid Bergelson, he founded the Culture-League Theater-Studio in Kiev, the director - Froim Leuter [2] [3] .

With Ignat Yura and Ambrose Buchma creates the Franko Theater in Kiev [4] - First Theater of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic. T. G. Shevchenko (1920-1921).

In 1921, he directed the Jewish theater Unoib (Beginning) with the artist Neeson Shifrin [5] and the writer V. M. Volkenshteyn (43 Kreschatik st.).

In 1921—1922 worked at the Independent Theater in Zhytomyr.

In 1923—1926 worked in the Kharkov Drama Theater. I. Franko. From 1927 to 1932 - artist of theatrical workshop in the Crimea.

He played the main roles in the plays of G. Ibsen (“ Doctor Stockman ”) [6] , J.-B. Moliere (" Tartuf "), K. Gutskov (" Uriel Acosta ") [7] , in the plays of Sophocles, G. Hauptmann, B. Shaw, as well as L. Ukrainka, V. Vinnichenko and others.
