Story and Gameplay
The game is based on an alternative version of the original series on transformers, created by Canadian animators - Beast Wars . Maximalists , led by Optimus Prime and Predakony , headed by Megatron, fight for power over an unknown planet. The player has 12 characters to choose from - 8 main and 4 secret, slightly different in the versions of the game for Nintendo 64 and PlayStation :
- Maximal
- Optimus Prime (present in both versions)
- Rattrap (present in both versions)
- Reader (present in both versions)
- Tigatron (present in both versions)
- Erazor (Nintendo 64 only)
- Silverbolt (PlayStation only)
- Windsor (PlayStation only)
- Predakony
- Megatron (present in both versions)
- Tarantulas (present in both versions)
- Blackarachnia (present in both versions)
- Aspirator (Nintendo 64 only)
- Ravage (present in both versions)
- Starscream (Nintendo 64 only)
- Terrorosaurus (Nintendo 64 only)
- Rampage (PlayStation only)
- Quickstrike (PlayStation only)
- Megatron X (Nintendo 64 only) - non-player character, final opponent
Of all the characters, only Windsor is not the hero of the original animated series.
The game is a typical early three-dimensional fighting game of the fifth generation of gaming systems , such as Tekken and Tobal games. Each character during the battle can be transformed into a specific animal and military vehicle. For example, Optimus Prime can become a gorilla or stand on a skateboard , Terrosaurus - turn into a pterodactyl or fighter, and Tarantula - into a spider or motorcycle.
In order to complete the game, you need to defeat seven opponents and defeat Megatron X in the final duel, after which a victory is declared and the final credits appear on the screen. On Nintendo 64, each character has its own ending, while on the PlayStation, the final video depends only on which side the winning character stands for. At the player’s choice, each match may consist of one, five, seven or nine rounds. In addition, in the game settings you can choose the time allotted for each round, increase or decrease the complexity of the game.
Another distinctive feature of the game on the Nintendo 64 is the presence of three mini-games: a short distance race, a duel on pistols and collecting coins. There are no mini-games in the version of the game on the PlayStation.
Criticism
Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals received very low ratings in all reviews, many were dissatisfied with the poor set of techniques used by transformers, unlike most other fighting games, there are no special hits made by pressing the gamepad buttons in a certain combination.
