Representatives of this order can reach a height of 30 cm. Perennial, diverse in appearance. The pinnate is double, of 16 teeth, most often of the brioid type, sometimes reduced. They can reproduce in various vegetative ways: brood branches, leaflets, threads, rhizoid nodules, buds, protonated.
Mostly live on the surface of the soil, in forests and swamps, less often on rocks. Families of the southern hemisphere can be completely epiphytic.
