It grows on rocky hills and slopes.
The tuber is almost spherical, with a diameter of 10-20 mm. The stem is 5-25 cm tall.
The stem leaf is single, up to 5 cm long. The common petiole of the stem leaf is very short, wide, with two stipules adhering to it; petiole is divided into three long petioles, each of which carries 4–5 separate plates in a cuneiform form; the lobes of these plates are somewhat fleshy, whole-edge, blunt, up to 3 cm long.
Flowers , 10–25 in number, 12–18 mm across, are collected in the apical brush . Bracts are rounded, whole-marginal; sepals elliptical or oblong-ovate, 2–2.5 times longer than the petals ; wedge-shaped petals, folded along the base, with a melliferous fossa, chopped off at the apex, with 2 bent denticles. Stamens slightly longer than the petals; a column of almost the same length with an ovary; ovary sessile or almost sessile.
The fruit is a rounded, membranous capsule , up to 8 mm in diameter, at the apex torn apart by the lobes before the seeds ripen, and contains 3-4 black-brown seeds exposed from it.
The Altai Leontitsa species belongs to the genus Leontice ( Leontice ) tribe Leontice ( Leonticeae ) of the subfamily Barberry ( Berberidoideae ) of the family Barberry ( Berberidaceae ) of the order Ranunculaceae .
