He received a bachelor 's degree in 1974 at Merton College, Oxford University . He began his scientific career in the summer of 1975 at Claire College, University of Cambridge , where he received a doctorate degree. Between 1977 and 1980, Wiles was a junior research assistant at Claire College and an assistant professor at Harvard University . He worked on the arithmetic of elliptic curves with methods . In 1982, Wiles moved from the UK to the USA .
The main event in his career was the proof of the Great Fermat theorem in 1994 . In 2016, for this evidence, he was awarded the Abel Prize [5] .

Fermat's great theorem
Fermat's great theorem states that there are no natural solutions of the equation a n + b n = c n for natural n> 2.
Andrew Wiles learned about the Great Fermat theorem at the age of ten. Then he made an attempt to prove it using methods from a school textbook. Later he began to study the work of mathematicians who tried to prove this theorem. After joining college, Andrew abandoned his attempts to prove the Great Fermat theorem and began studying elliptic curves under the guidance of John Coats.
He began working on Fermat's theorem in the summer of 1986, right after proved that Fermat's theorem follows from the Taniyama – Shimura hypothesis in the case of semistable elliptic curves [6] .
The work of Wiles is fundamental, but the method is applicable only for elliptic curves over rational numbers. Perhaps there is a more general proof of the modularity of elliptic curves [7] .
Culture Reflection
Wiles's work on the Great Farm Theorem is reflected in the musical “The Great Tango Farm ” by Lessner and Rosenblum [8] .
Wiles and his work are featured in the “Facets” episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine .
