Edwulf I ( born Eadwulf I ; died in 717 ) is the king of Northumbria (704–705) from the Iding dynasty .

Biography
At the time of Eldfreet's death , his son Osred was still very young, so the nobleman Edwulf managed to usurp power. He was probably the offspring of some side branch of the royal house and had some rights to the crown. Initially, Edwulf enjoyed the support of the prominent Eldormen Bertfreet, the son of Bertred, who owned land in the north of Bernice . Soon, however, Bertfreet decided to return Bishop York Wilfried from exile, which the king opposed. Bertfrith besieged him in Bamboro and, in the end, in February or March 705 forced him to flee to Dal Riad , and the young Osred was seated on the throne of Northumbria .
The Annals of Ulster report the death of Edwulf in 717 . Until then, he was in exile in Dal Riad or at the Picts . His son Ernwin was assassinated in 740 by order of King Edward of Northumbria. Erdwulf , the great-great-grandson of Edwulf, and his son Enred were kings of Northumbria at a later time.
