Correlator

The correlator is a specialized device for automatically calculating the correlation functions and mutual correlation functions of stationary random processes (or processes reducible to stationary). [one]

A correlator that defines a certain set of correlation function values corresponding to a certain interval of variation of its argument (time delays) and equipped with a measuring device for counting these values is usually called a correlometer [1] .

A correlator that provides automatic registration of graphs of the correlation function ( correlograms ) on information carriers is called a correlograph .

In the hardware calculation of the correlation functions of stationary random processes, it is assumed that the processes have the ergodicity property. This allows the use of time averaging in correlators.
