It sings about a singer, whose songs were played on the radio , and whose career, with the advent of television , ended too soon. The vocal of the song was stylized to the sound that can be heard from the old tube radio receivers . In recognition of Trevor Horn , the lyrics were inspired by the short story by James Ballard “The Sound-Sweep” about a deaf-and-dumb boy who had never heard the music, and an opera singer, who felt that his time had passed.
The video for this song, to commemorate the new era - the music television, which replaced the radio, was shown first at the debut airing of the MTV channel on August 1, 1981 at 00:01 at night. [one]
In 1983, the song performed by the group " Stars On 45 " was released in the USSR on the record "The Sun of a Good Day" (the company "Melody" , G62-09743-4) called "Television killed a radio star."
