It is a monument of history and architecture of regional significance [2] .
History
The building was built as a tenement house in 1897-1900 by order of the entrepreneur, Odessa collector and philanthropist A. P. Russov . The architect of the project is L. M. Chernigov, the design of the facade is by the artist of architecture V. I. Schmidt.
The house gained special fame due to the location in it of the “central” pharmacy of Gayevsky. The “Gayevsky and Popovsky Pharmacy” was founded in 1878 (1898?) By pharmacists A. E. Gayevsky and A. N. Popovsky and at that time was the only pharmaceutical institution in southern Russia that met the demand and needs of the population, as well as the relevant medical canons [3] . In 1908, the house was purchased by the owner of the pharmacy A.E. Gaevsky.
Current status
In 2004, the reconstruction of the building began. In the fall of 2009, a series of fires occurred in the building (at least three fires were recorded). As a result, internal partitions, supporting structures, burned to a large extent in the building, roofs and crowns crowning the building collapsed [4] .
It is believed that the cause of the incident was arson, the fire itself was called an "act of vandalism." The event drew attention to the fate of the building and made the city authorities react to what happened [1]
According to the statement of the reconstruction investor , the building needs to be “carefully dismantled” and then rebuilt using modern technologies [5] .
Despite the fact that the Odessa authorities promised to restore the building in its original form, in December 2010, the news appeared in the media that “In the near future, there will be ... the city of Russov ... a city social and cultural center with an international congress hall. In addition, the company "builder" plans reconstruction of the streets: Preobrazhenskaya and Pasteur . Odessa residents will not do without another gift in the architecturally significant part of the city - three-level auto parking ” [3] .
On October 19, 2014, interfloor ceilings collapsed in the house of Russov [6] .
On September 30, 2017, a fire broke out in the house, flames engulfed the first and second floor of the building. Ignition was localized. [7]
June 14, 2018 began repair and restoration work. Estimated cost of work agreed upon by tender conditions is 108 million UAH. [eight]
