The cult center of the god Montu . Iuni was the original capital of the IV Upper Egyptian nome , losing this status to Thebes by the end of the Ancient Kingdom. The further prosperity of the city is associated with the activities of the pharaohs of the XI dynasty, whose patron god was the warlike Montu. This city flourished in the era of the New Kingdom, the pharaohs of which erected majestic temples here in honor of Mont. Considering the Southern Heliopolis , worshiping the goddess Rattaui , “Rat of both lands” (Rat is the female hypostasis of Ra), the city attracted the attention of Akhenaten , who built the temple here to sunny Aton .

In the Greco-Roman era, the city again became the capital of the nome, Cleopatra VII built a temple here, which lasted until the 19th century, when the active destruction of the ancient city began. The temple was demolished during the construction of the sugar factory.
