History
The village was founded in 1806 by Colonel Stepan Dmitrievich Ilovaisky . [2] Initially, it had the status of a farm, which was called Stepanovka. Later, the village was transferred to Colonel Leonov under unknown circumstances.
Major General Stepan Aleksandrovich Leonov received a reward for the service of serfs and settled them on the banks of the Sukhoi Elanchik River. Since the 1850s, the farm began to be called Leonov Khutor, and after death - by the name of Leonov’s daughter - the settlement of Zarudnaya, then - Yekaterinovka, named after Leonov’s youngest daughter, who inherited these lands from her father and became a large landowner. Since the 1870s, Ekaterinovka became the administrative center of Ekaterinovsky volost.
Its structure included the villages of Grigoryevsky, Novosyolovsky, Nikolaevsky. That lived the peasants of the landowners of Ilovaysky, Merzhanovs, Maryanovs. The settlement itself, Ekaterinovka, belonged to the landowners Zarudny (after marriage, Ekaterina Leonova took her husband's surname). It had 267 yards and about 1,500 souls.
Peasants kept at their own expense several schools that were opened in 1899. In the volost sown rye , winter and spring wheat, millet . The vast majority of peasants did not have land on the right of ownership , they rented it from the landowners.
Catherine's settlement existed within the boundaries of the volost until 1926 [3] .
