Nickel (alloy)

Nickel is an alloy of copper (65-67% Cu) with nickel (25-35% Ni) with impurities of manganese (0.4-0.6% Mn), iron and zinc . It is characterized by high electrical resistance , which varies slightly with temperature, and resistance to corrosion. Recently, nickel has been replaced by other cheaper alloys (with a lower nickel content).

Electrical resistivity 0.4 Ohm · mm² / m.

The temperature coefficient of electrical resistance of nickel is α = 0.1 · 10 −3 K −1 in the range 0-100 ° C.

Application

  • In electrical equipment ( Rheostats ).
  • Coins
