Biography
Prominent Protestant commander, one of the first nobles of Poitou . He became famous even under Henry II during the wars in Tuscany, which enabled him to be present quite often at the court of the Duchess of Ferrara , who converted him to Calvinism . Upon returning to France, he became an ardent supporter and promoter of Calvinism.
During the first religious war he entered the army of Prince Conde and was with him at Mo and Talsi, participated in the capture of Orleans (1562). Then he was appointed commander of the garrison of Lyon and defended the city from the attacks of Tavann and Nemours .
