Killen was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He started playing football in such clubs as the team of Chris's educational institution - Rongotai College and Miramar Rangers . In 1998 he moved to England and entered the academy of the Manchester City club, a year later he signed a professional contract with the “townspeople”. In September 2000, was leased for six months at Wrexham . Chris started the 2001/02 season on a lease at the Port Vale club, but was already recalled by the City in November due to a series of injuries from the attacking citizens.
In July 2002, the New Zealander moved to Oldham Athletic , which paid £ 250,000 for a player [4] . In the new team, Chris was tortured with injuries, as a result, after the expiration of his contract with the “Filin”, he became a free agent.
In January 2006, Killen signed a contract with the Scottish Hibernian [5] . For the first half of the 2006/07 season, Chris scored 15 goals for the Hibs, but a gap in the Achilles tendon in January 2007 forced the New Zealander to prematurely end the football year. Killen’s contract with Hibernian ended in the summer of that year, but the player again left the club without pay, rejecting the Edinburgh proposal to extend the cooperation agreement.
The new Zealander’s next team was Celtic , with whom he signed a contract for three years [6] . Not making his way into the main part of the “Celts”, Killen was leased to the English “ Norwich City ” [7] . In January 2010, the New Zealander moved to Middlesbrough , which meant that he would again work under the direction of Gordon Strakan, the former Celtic mentor.
After his contract with Middlesbrough expired in June 2010, Chris left the Rechnik camp and became a free agent. After that, he spent a season and a half in the Chinese “ Shenzhen Ruby ”. In February 2012, a New Zealander joined the ranks of another club from the Celestial Empire - Chongqing .
Killen's debut in the New Zealand national team took place at the OFK 2000 Nations Cup , where he scored the first goal for the “whites" [8] . He took part in the football tournament of the 2008 Olympic Games , the fights of the Confederations Cup 2003 , the Confederations Cup 2009, and the 2010 World Cup . Winner of the OFK Cup of Nations 2002 and the OFK Cup of Nations 2008 as part of the White.

Club career
The early years
Chris Killen was born on October 8, 1981 in the capital of New Zealand - Wellington , spent his childhood in the suburbs of the "Cities of the Winds" - the island of Island Bay . After graduation, he entered Rongotai College ( English Rongotai College ), here he began to seriously get involved in football. He represented his educational institution in the competition on the youth at the level of Socker. After graduating from Rongotai College, Killen was invited to the Miramar Rangers youth team. With his striking qualities and an extraordinary game, the young footballer attracted the attention of the coaches of the New Zealand student team, in which he played in Australia in 1998. One of Chris’s partners on this team was also future players of the New Zealand national team Leo Bertos and Tony Lockhead .
In the same year, the Miramar coach arranged a trip to England for Killen, where he went through a viewing at the Manchester City club [9] . Brides were successful, and 17-year-old Chris was enrolled in the youth academy of "citizens". In September 2000, wanting to "fire" at a young New Zealander in adult football, the City leased it to the Wrexham club, where Killen hit the Oldham Athletic goal in his first game for a new team [10] . In total, for four months spent in the “red dragons”, Chris spent 12 matches, scoring 3 goals.
The next season, the New Zealander also began to lease, this time at the Port Vale club, where he hit the opponents' goal 6 times, having entered the field 10 times.
In November 2001, Manchester City was forced to withdraw Killen from the lease due to injuries to the main strikers of the first team. Chris debuted in the City on November 24 in a match against Rotherham United - the New Zealander entered the field in the 79th minute of the match, replacing Leon Mike [11] . In total, in the first squad of “citizens” in the 2001/02 season, Killen played three meetings, he also became the top scorer in the tournament of duplicate teams of the Championship [12] .
Oldham Athletic
Unable to break into the main composition of the City, Chris was sold in July 2002 to the Oldham Athletic Club. The amount of compensation paid by the "owls" for the player amounted to 250 thousand pounds [4] . In “Oldham”, the New Zealander played three and a half years, played 90 matches and scored 23 goals [13] . In the 2004/05 season, Killen with 15 goals became the club's top scorer [13] . However, in the next football year, Chris was too susceptible to injuries, so the management of the "owls" did not renew the contract with the player expiring in January 2006. Killen, becoming a free agent, accepted the offer to sign an agreement with the Scottish Hibernian [13] . After the New Zealander left Oldham, the head coach of the Owls, Ronnie Moore , commented on his departure as follows:
| You know, but it’s probably even good that Chris left the club, good - especially for him. He has the ambitions of a winner, but we are too modest to realize them. I hope the Hibernian will become a springboard in the development of his career. He deserves it [14] . |
Nevertheless, the club’s managing director on the Oldham’s official website stated that the price paid for the New Zealander by the “Filins” did not match the quality of his teamwork. In particular, figures were given that due to Chris’s frequent injuries, each of his trips to the field cost 13 thousand pounds, and each goal - 36 thousand [14] .
Hibernian
In January 2006, Killen joined the ranks of the Hibernian as a free agent. [5] He made his debut with the Hibs on January 28 in a duel against the Hart of Midlothian , a week later in the Scottish Cup match , in which the Hibernian met with the Rangers at the Ibrox Stadium, Chris opened the scoring for his goals in the Edinburgh club [15 ] .
Four days later, the New Zealander scored for the first time in the Scottish Premier League match, participating in the defeat that the “hibs” inflicted on “ Livingston ” - the meeting ended with the score 7-0 in favor of “Hibernian” [16] . By the end of the 2006/07 season, Killen scored four goals for Edinburgh.
Chris’s first goal in Euro cup matches took place on July 2 - in the fourth round match of the Intertoto Cup, Killen scored the first goal in a game against Dinaburg from Latvia , which ended up 5-0 in favor of the Scots [17] [18] .
In connection with the departure from Edinburgh in the off-season of 2006, the main attackers of the “Hibernian” Derek Rayordan and Gary O'Connor had great hopes for the New Zealander in the upcoming season. By December, Killen had scored 11 goals, including two against the Rangers. [19] But in January 2007, having received an Achilles tendon rupture against Aberdeen , Chris was forced to end the season prematurely. The contract with the New Zealander "hibs" expired in the summer of the same year. In the spring, Edinburgh invited Killen to sign a new one-year cooperation agreement, but, not having settled for the duration of the new contract, Chris refused to sign it.
Celtic
As a result, in the summer of 2007, the New Zealander again became a free agent. Cardiff City was interested in the services of the attacker [20] , but, having refused the offer of the Welsh , Killen remained in Scotland and signed a 3-year contract with Celtic [6] . Chris debuted as part of the Celts on August 5, when the New Zealander replaced the match between White and Green and Kilmarnock . On October 7, Killen scored his first goal at Celtic - having hit the goal of Gretna in the 87th minute of the meeting, he evened the score in the match, and in the added time he took part in the attack, which ended with the goal of Scott MacDonald and, accordingly, the victory "Celts" [21] . On October 24, Chris first took part in the Champions League match , where the “white and green” played against the Portuguese “ Benfica ”.
After that, Killen lost his place in the main team of Celtic, remaining behind MacDonald, Samaras and Vennegor of Hesselink . Basically, at that time he played for the reserve team of the “Celts”, trying not to lose the game practice.
Norwich City
On his personal initiative, the New Zealander was leased on January 31, 2009 to Norwich City in English for half a year [7] . On February 3, in a duel with Wolverhampton Wanderers , he made his debut in a new team. But even here, Killen could not play, just four times appearing on the field, and leaving for a replacement.
Return to the Celtic
At the end of the 2008/09 season, Gordon Strakan left the post of mentor of Celtic. He was replaced by Tony Mowbray , the coach who led the Hibernian during Killen’s stay there.
The new “white-green” mentor returned the New Zealander to the club’s base. Killen began to score again - on July 13 in the pre-season match “Celtic” against “ Brisbane Roar ” Chris scored a “double” [22] . He participated in off-season friendly matches against Al-Ahly [23] and Tottenham Hotspur - in the latter he scored a goal and also assisted the young Paul Caddis [24] . Chris scored his first goal in the 2009/10 season at Harts.
Middlesbrough
In January 2010, Celtic former head coach Gordon Strakan came to Killen with a proposal to the New Zealander to join the ranks of the English Middlesbrough - a club that the Scot headed. Without thinking twice, Chris agreed to move to England. The deal between Celtic and Boro took place on January 14, the New Zealander signed a contract with the Rivermen until the summer of that year. Killen became the third Celtic footballer, along with Willo Flood and Barry Robson , who joined Middlesbrough in January 2010 [25] [26] . Later, two more Celtic players joined them - Scott MacDonald and Stephen McManus .
Killen scored his first goal for Borough on February 9, hitting Barnsley Gate [27] .
After his contract with Middlesbrough expired in June 2010, Chris left the Rechnik camp and became a free agent.
Shenzhen Ruby
July 24, Killen signed a contract for a year and a half with the club of the Chinese Super League " Shenzhen Ruby " [28] . Four days later, the New Zealander made his debut as part of his new team, substituting in a duel against Liaoning . In the same match, having hit the “tigers” gate in the 80th minute, the striker scored his first goal in China and brought the victory to “Shenzhen” with the score 2: 1 [29] . At the end of the 2011 season, Ruby left the top Chinese division [30] .
Chongqing
In December 2011, Killen announced that he wants to return to his homeland [31] . However, on February 17, 2012, the New Zealander joined the ranks of another Chinese club - Chongqing [32] .
