In the 2009/10 season, McGill played in a series of PIOS tournaments , where, thanks to a victory in one of eight tournaments, he took 4th place in the final rating [2] . This allowed him to go on the main tour the next season and gain professional status.
In 2006, McGill was a finalist in the Pot Black junior tournament [3] . In 2011, he reached the finals of Scottish Professional , but then lost to John Higgins . Thanks to good results in rating tournaments, McGill took 59th place in the rating according to the results of his debut season in the main tour.
In the 2014/15 season, he became one of the 32 participants of the World Cup, having won in 1/16 against Stephen Maguire 10: 9, and then presented the main, at the moment, sensation of the tournament, defeating the current champion Mark Selby 13: 9.
