Biography

Alexey Chelishchev was born on July 27, 1836 in the family of Alexander Alexandrovich Chelishchev (1797-1881) and Natalya Alekseevna, daughter of the famous wit and joker A.M. Pushkin . He had a twin brother Vladimir (1836-1855) and sisters Maria and Catherine [1] .

He was educated at the School of Guard Ensigns and Cavalry Junkers , from where he was released on June 17, 1854 and was assigned to the civil service with the rank of college secretary.

On June 29, 1855, the Semenovsky regiment was enlisted in the Life Guards and was immediately sent to the Crimea , where he took part in the final affairs of the Eastern War .

From April 19, 1856 he served in the 1st Life Guards Rifle His Majesty's Battalion , where he successively received the rank of second lieutenant (April 7, 1857), lieutenant (April 12, 1859), staff captain (April 17, 1862), captain ( August 30, 1862) and Colonel (April 16, 1867), commanded a company in the battalion.

On March 5, 1868, Chelishchev received the post of Life Guard commander of the 4th Rifle Imperial last name of the battalion, and on August 30, 1870 he was appointed the adjutant wing .

On April 17, 1876, Chelischev was appointed commander of the Life Guards of the Jaeger Regiment , at the head of which he appeared at the Balkan Theater of the Russian-Turkish War in 1877. October 12 in the battle of Mountain Dubnyak was shell-shocked. For distinctions against the Turks, on January 1, 1878, Chelishchev was promoted to major general with admission to His Majesty’s retinue (with seniority of October 12, 1877), on January 13, 1879, he received a golden saber with the inscription “For Courage” for crossing the Balkans , and March 30, 1879 was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree

 December 19, 1877, during the passage of the Guards Corps through the Balkans, at the village Tashkisen personally led the assault companies of the regiment entrusted to him and took Turkish redoubts from the battle, protected by a strong enemy. 

On August 17, 1880, Chelishchev was appointed commander of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Guards Infantry Division, from September 16, 1887 he commanded the 1st Infantry Division. August 30, 1888 promoted to lieutenant general , from August 12, 1894 he commanded the 3rd Grenadier Division.

He died on July 16, 1894 in Moscow , was buried in the Novodevichy Convent, was removed from the lists on July 30.

Wife (from 12.11.1869) - Alexandra Andreevna Gerngross (1846-1922 [2] ), granddaughter of General R. F. Gengross . In marriage, she had one son, Yuri (d. 1883) and a daughter, Natalya (1870-1954; married to MG Priklonsky) [3] .
