The final scandal ( The Penultimate Peril ) is a novel by Daniel Handler , the twelfth of thirteen books in the Thirty-Three Misfortunes series. It tells the story of three children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, who were orphaned after the fire and ended up living with their distant relative, Count Olaf.

Story
The penultimate book in this series reunites the Baudelaire orphans with many characters from previous adventures when they gather at the Interchange Hotel, whose rooms are organized according to the Dewey Decimal System . In a sense, the hotel can be seen as a vacation for Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire after the tiring adventure on the high seas in the previous book.
