Biography

Born on April 24, 1933 in Riga , in a working class family.

He graduated from the First Riga Secondary School ( 1951 ) and the Theater Department of the Latvian State Conservatory ( 1956 ). He studied at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Cesis State Pedagogical Institute ( 1951 - 1952 ).

After graduation, he was accepted into the troupe of the State Academic Art Theater. J. Rainis ( Dailes Theater , 1956 - 1972 ). In 1973 - 1993 - artist of the Latvian State Philharmonic . He took part in the production and performed with large concert programs: “A Man in the Prime of His Life” by Sigmund Skuin, “Thoughts and Heart” based on the book of memoirs by Nikolai Amosov and with a poetic composition based on the works of Skaidrite Kaldupe.

He made his film debut in the title role in the film directed by Leonid Lukov “Towards the New Bank” ( 1955 ) - an adaptation of the novel by Vilis Latsis. He was one of the most sought-after Latvian actors in the USSR. He starred in the Riga film studio, in the film studios Mosfilm , Belarusfilm , Moldova-film and many others.

He was married to ballet actress Maya Lielige.
