The river originates in the Pyrenees and flows to the northeast, near the source forming the border of Andorra and France, and then turns to the northwest. Most of the river is in the departments of Ariege and Haute-Garonne in the Occitania region of France .
It falls into the Garonne between Muret and Toulouse .
