Ivan Ivanovich Blagoveschensky ( February 19, 1853 - May 31, 1924 , Petrozavodsk ) - writer, local historian, statistician and bibliographer, researcher of the life and living conditions of the population of the Olonets province .

Biography

Born in the family of a priest. He graduated from the Olonets Theological Seminary in 1875.

From 1875 to 1880 he worked as a teacher at the Ilyinsky rural school. In 1880 he entered the civil service as secretary of the Olonets district police department. Since 1883, he served as a junior assistant to the ruler of the office of the Olonets governor.

Since 1891 - Secretary of the Olonets Provincial Government, since 1904 - Senior Advisor to the Board.

From 1887 to 1910 - Secretary of the Olonets Provincial Statistics Committee.

In 1897 he was one of the organizers of the All-Russian population census in the Olonets province. Under his leadership, two editions of the “Olonets Collection”, 10 issues of the “ Memorial Book of the Olonets Province” were published, and the “ List of Populated Places of the Olonets Province ” for 1897 was compiled.

He was appointed director of orphanages in the Olonets province. In 1910-1912 he directed the Olonets Provincial Museum . He headed the Olonets provincial printing house .

In 1913 he was elected a member of the board of the Society for the Study of the Olonets Province.

In 1911-1915 he was elected an honorary magistrate for the Petrozavodsk district of the Olonets province.

In 1915-1917, he served as the military censor of the Olonets province.

After the October Revolution, he worked as manager of affairs at the Olonets Provincial Statistical Bureau, retired from May 1, 1919.

I. I. Blagoveshchensky published a number of works on the history, geography and economics of the Olonets province, articles in the newspaper Olonets Provincial Gazette . The most significant works are:
