Dumumanoire, Pierre

Pierre Dumanouard ( French Pierre Dumanoir le Pelley ; August 2, 1770 - July 6 or 7, 1829 , Paris ) - French admiral, count. Member of the Egyptian expedition of Napoleon , during which he commanded a frigate, on which Marshals Lannes , Marmont and Murat returned to France. He commanded the vanguard in the Battle of Trafalgar , after which he withdrew the remnants of the fleet and with which he suffered another defeat from the British in the battle at Cape Ortegal .

Biography

Born on August 2, 1770 in Granville . He entered the service as a port apprentice (fr. Élève de port) in 1787 and served on the Antilles until 1790. Then he received the rank of Ensign and served on the frigates Pomona and Nereid, cruising along Africa. Then he switched to the flute "Dromedary", heading to Cayenne .

Produced as a lieutenant, Dumuinar received an appointment to the headquarters of Admiral Pierre Martin, served on the battleship Sankyulot.

In 1795, Dumumanoire received the rank of captain, and receives command of the battleship "Berwick" , recently captured from the British. As part of Rear Admiral Joseph de Richery's squadron, he intercepts British merchant ships in the Mediterranean Sea and Newfoundland .

In 1796, Dumumanoir commanded a detachment of ships under Rear Admiral Bouvet on an Irish expedition (an unsuccessful attempt to support the rebellion of the Irish).

In 1811 he was appointed commander of the Danzig naval defense. During the siege of Danzig, the Russian troops acted boldly, in one of the skirmishes he was wounded and captured.

Upon returning from captivity in 1814, in 1815 he was appointed commander of the defense of Marseille. January 27, 1819 received the rank of vice admiral.
