ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials) is an international organization that develops and publishes voluntary standards for materials, products, systems and services.

It was founded in 1898 in the USA in the form of the American section of the International Association for Testing Materials and was originally engaged in the standards of quality control of materials for railways .
ASTM supports about 12,000 standards. ASTM Standards consist of 80 volumes.
Membership in the organization is open to anyone who is interested in its work. Members are more than 32 thousand representatives from manufacturers, users, direct consumers, governments and academies in more than 100 countries.
Standards are reviewed and reprinted at least every five years.
More than 5,000 ASTM standards are accepted outside the United States as national, and more than 60 countries use ASTM standards as the basis for building their regulatory frameworks.
