Dhoti
Dkhoti ( Hindi , dhotī IAST ) is a traditional type of men's clothing, common in South and Southeast Asia, particularly in India . It is a rectangular strip of fabric 2–5 m long wrapped around the legs and hips with one end passing between the legs. Usually, white or monochrome fabric is used, sometimes decorated with an ornament on the edge. When worn, it resembles tight shorts or short trousers . In South India and Punjab, dhoti were traditionally worn in the form of a skirt-plowing.
The length of the dhoti could be a sign of the caste distinction: the members of the higher castes usually had long dhoti, the representatives of the lower castes had shorter, better adapted for work.
Tamils call dhoti - vesti ( tam. வேட்டி ).
