The Archdiocese of Southwark is a Roman Catholic metropolis with the center of London , England . It was founded in 1851 by Pope Pius IX among the first 13 dioceses in England. Later, the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton and the Portsmouth Diocese were isolated from it.

The area of the archdiocese is 3,000 km² and includes counties: partially Greater London south of the Thames, Kent , and the unitary unit of Medway . The Archdiocese Center is located in central London , in St. George's Cathedral on Westminster Bridge Road [1] , which was the main Catholic cathedral in England until the opening of Westminster Cathedral in 1903.
Currently, the post of Archbishop of Southwark is held by Peter Smith , 4th Archbishop of Southwark, who succeeded Kevin MacDonald , who retired due to health reasons.
